My son, Justin was born on 3rd November 2005 at 34 weeks weighing in at a healthy 6lb 2oz (My other 3 were all full term and weighed around 10lbs!). He had to be delivered early by cesarean section as there were complications for my wife.
Justin spent the first 24 hours on full ventilator. he then went on to CPAP for 2 days then just on oxygen for 5 days. He was then able to move to a cot and was breathing on his own. He then spent time in the nursery until being allowed home after 2 and half weeks.
Throughout the time while Justin was in NICU the staff there could not have been more helpful, I wanted to do something to say thank you.

When I look at Paul and Kate now it is hard to believe they each weighed just over 2 pounds at birth, and were so poorly that their first few weeks of life were touch and go. As you can see they are now fit, healthy and perfectly normal 11 year olds, Paul participating in as much sport as he can manage and playing the guitar and piano; Kate loving to ride, swim and play the piano too.
They were born in Dorchester and after 2 weeks of superb care in NICU there, they were transferred to Poole so we could all be closer to home. It was a very difficult time, they both experienced major setbacks and for a number of weeks it was 1 step forward, 2 steps back. The staff at the Unit were all amazing, not only in the expert care they gave our precious babies, but also in the way they helped us as parents, keeping us fully informed and helping us cope with the situation.
