I have now hiy 40 years old when undertaking the trip. I am married to Sian and have 4 children ranging in age from 2½ to 12 years old.

I work as the IT manager for Just Sardinia, which means I sit down all day. Not the best preperation for a trip like this. I do however cycle to work every day, which is around 5 miles each way.

Training has been a bit lax this time with worl commitments, but hopefully I will get through it.

I will be 45 when we set of to Sardinia on my trusty Dawes Touring bike.

I will be leaving behind my 3 children, William 11, Tim 7, and Nicholas 4 and Alison my very understanding wife.

I own and run the Tour Operator Just Sardinia & Just Skiing which certainly keeps me busy.

My Children were all born in Poole Maternity unit and this is my way of saying thank you to the great team that work there.

The training for the trip is now going well after a shaky start and we hope to cover at least 60 miles a day. I always wanted to cycle through France to Sardinia where we have a small house and now I have a great reason for doing it.

I live in Poole with Susan and our 2 children, Paul and Kate, 11 year old twins. As a family we have spent many happy holidays driving through France to Provence, but this time I am looking forward to seeing more of the countryside from my bike rather than behind the wheel of a car!

NICU in Poole, is very close to our hearts, as after their premature birth 12 weeks before their due date, Paul and Kate spent 3 months in the unit. They were both very poorly babies, and we know that without the dedication and expertise of the staff in the unit, they would not be with us today. It is, therefore, with the greatest pleasure I embark on this cycle ride in order to raise funds that I hope will help other babies and their families.

I’m managing director and 50% owner of Bennington Green Associates, a Bournemouth based Building Surveying, Design and Project Management Consultancy. Although I now live in Poole, my children were all born healthily overseas. Nevertheless I’m very proud to be raising money for a great cause that will provide such important support at the early stage of life, to those that need it.

I’m also hugely excited about the trip although not particularly looking forward to the thought of the punishing impact on a particular part of my anatomy! Any good suggestions for the relief of saddle soreness will be gratefully received.

I'm a GP at Highcliffe Medical Centre and I live in Mudeford with my wife and two children. Our kids are Poole babies too and we'll always be grateful for the expertise and professional support we received at the Maternity Unit there.

Cycling is my main method of relaxation and I often wish that I could more easily incorporate it into my day to day routine, although I might feel differently about that after 1000 miles in the saddle!

Huw asked me to join the team after making it all sound very easy. It was only after I said yes, that he mentioned the first aid kit, the pain killers, and the various creams that will be required.

I suspect it's actually going to be quite hard, with long distances every day, but hopefully it will raise enough funds to make a difference to the tiny patients on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
